Searchers find body of 27-year-old Wisconsin mother who disappeared in 2020

The remains of a woman who went missing in 2020 were found in Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice announced Tuesday that Cassandra Ayon was found on private property near CTH P and Abe Lincoln Road in Brighton on Nov. 30. She was last seen on October 3, 2020 in Unity, Wisconsin.

“My condolences go out to Cassandra’s family and friends,” said Attorney General Josh Kaul. “Thank you to everyone who fought for justice and provided answers in this horrific case.”

On September 12, 2022, Jesus Contreras-Perez of Mosinee, Wisconsin, was sentenced to life in prison without eligibility for parole in connection with Ayon’s disappearance.

A jury found Contreras-Perez guilty of first-degree premeditated murder, concealment of a corpse and stalking with bodily harm following a five-day trial in June 2022.

“While we were pleased with the outcome of the trial and felt justice was served for Cassandra Ayon, we never stopped looking for her,” said Clark County District Attorney Melissa Inlow. “We hope the discovery of her remains brings a sense of closure and finality to her family and to all who miss and mourn her.”

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Marathon County Sheriff’s Office, Marathon County Medical Examiner’s Office, DNR, Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory and Wisconsin State Patrol assisted in the search and recovery of the remains.
