Idaho State volleyball earns its first postseason win and tournament berth in over half a decade

POCATELLO – The Idaho State University volleyball team is in the midst of its best season in several years by any measure.

The Bengals’ 20-9 regular-season record is the program’s best mark since 2015, as is their 13-3 conference record. With a 3-1 victory over Northern Arizona last Wednesday, ISU recorded its first playoff win since 2018. And it all earned the program its first tournament invitation since 2013.

ISU followed up its first-round victory over the Astrojacks, who lost in straight sets, and hosted Sacramento State – the eventual winner of the Big Sky Tournament.

Head coach Sean Carter has continued to develop the program since taking over in 2022. After ISU’s win over Northern Arizona, he spoke about how proud he was of the effort his team put in all season.

“When we took over, we were at the bottom of the league,” Carter said. “Now we’re in second place and got our first win against a great NAU team.”

On Sunday, the Bengals announced via social media that they had accepted an invitation to participate in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship.

The Bengals will face Wyoming (15-12) in the first round. The game is scheduled to begin on Thursday at 6 p.m.
