Blumhouse horror flop with 22% Rotten Tomatoes score continues Netflix streaming success

Blumhouse Productions has made a name for itself in the film industry by releasing high-quality, popular horror films. Unfortunately, 2024 brought with it a mixed offering and a title with an unfortunate event that seems to be changing thanks to streaming.




Blumhouse released several horror titles in 2024, including the critically acclaimed remake Don’t speak evilwith an 83% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but also Imaginarywith an unfortunate approval rating of 24%, and WORRIEDwhich received a 22% rating from critics. WORRIED set a series of unfortunate records for Blumhouse, but proved to be a streaming success after its release on Netflix. Now the success continues WORRIED According to Netflix, the first week on the streaming platform ended at number 10 in the US for the week between November 26th and December 1st.

WORRIED is a sci-fi horror that explores the idea that a sentient AI can wreak havoc on domestic life. The sci-fi horror had a similar plot to Blumhouse M3GANwhich was more successful with critics and at the box office. However, WORRIED was successful following its US streaming release on Netflix, landing at number 5. Its first full week didn’t end there, but it still managed to stay in the top 10, which could lead to further success.

WORRIED with John Cho (The resentment, Seek), Katherine Waterston (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Keith Carradine (Fargo), Lukita Maxwell (shrinkage) and David Dasmalchian (Late Night with the Devil) and was directed and written by Chris Weitz (The Twilight Saga: New Moon).


The film had a budget of 12 million US dollars and unfortunately was released in theaters without making a profit, meaning that the investment could hardly be covered. The science fiction horror premiered in theaters on August 30th and had to keep up Beetlejuice Beetlejuice And Deadpool and Wolverineand ended up grossing just $12.9 million at the worldwide box office, according to Box Office Mojo.

Blumhouse will continue to focus on sci-fi horror with M3GAN 2.0

AI has become a constant in our lives and has long been used by major productions as a villain in productions. M3GANThe film is about an orphan whose aunt gives her an animatronic doll that becomes so attached to her that she is willing to murder. The film was a huge success thanks to its dark humor and viral dance moves.


With a modest budget of $12 million M3GAN was a massive hit, grossing $181.7 million worldwide, prompting Blumhouse to confirm a sequel and spin-off, SOULM8TE. Filming for the sequel began this summer and lead actress Allison Williams recently confirmed that M3GAN 2.0 has finished filming, and Blumhouse treated fans to a photo of BTS on the new animatronic doll. M3GAN 2.0 will premiere on June 27, 2025.

Until then, WORRIED could potentially keep fans company on Netflix.
