Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele is transferring from Cal to Oregon

2025 five-star Ewa Beach (HI) quarterback James Campbell Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele has switched his commitment from the California Golden Bears to the Oregon Ducks.

He announced his decision Wednesday during a signing ceremony at his school.

The 1.90 meter tall and 100 kilogram quarterback is rated five stars (98.00) by On3. The same system ranks him as the No. 19 player nationally, the No. 4 quarterback and the No. 1 prospect in Hawaii.

Sagapolutele had been committed to Justin Wilcox and the Golden Bears since July 8 and took an official visit to Oregon for the Illinois game in October.

“My favorite part was definitely attending the QB meetings, seeing (Will) Stein and Coach Lambo (Matt Lombardi) and seeing what they do with their QBs,” Sagapolutele told ScoopDuck after the official visit. “It was just something special to see. But one moment that I would probably say was my favorite was them walking into the locker room at the end of the game after the win. Coach (Dan) Lanning gave a speech and just saw how everyone was engaged, everyone was fired up and pumped up. That was really a great moment for me.”

Newest Duck Sagapolutele set records as a senior

The left quarterback had a standout senior season, leading the James Campbell Sabers to a 9-2 record. His play on the field also led to him receiving the 2024 Marcus Mariota Award, which recognizes the best player in the state of Hawaii.

Sagapolutele completed 268 of his 418 passes and threw for 3,757 yards and 37 touchdowns against 12 interceptions (according to Scoringlive.com). He also carried the ball 53 times for four rushing touchdowns. In the process, he broke Dillon Gabriel’s all-time state record for passing yards.

The No. 1 player in Hawaii is the second quarterback to commit to Oregon this cycle, as the Ducks also signed four-star passer Lincoln from On3 Industry out of San Diego, Calif Akili Smith Jr. When he arrives at Oregon, he will follow in the footsteps of two other great Hawaiian quarterbacks who won the Heisman Trophy in 2014 Marcus Mariota and current Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
