Westbrook man is charged with murdering his roommate

A Westbrook man is charged with murder after he called 911 and told police his roommate was unresponsive.

The victim and the defendant lived together in a house in Westbrook

James Fowler, 47, of Westbrook, is charged with depraved indifference murder for the death of Robert Seger, 59, also of Westbrook.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Shannon Moss said the two men lived together at 34 Lamb Street. Shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Thursday evening, November 21, 2024, Westbrook Police received a 911 call for a medical emergency at this address. When officers arrived, they found Mr. Seger unresponsive in a bedroom. First responders attempted to render aid and transported Mr. Seger to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he later died from his injuries. Police interviewed Fowler, who said the two had been arguing. He said he then left for a while before returning.

Maine’s chief medical examiner concluded Seger’s death was a homicide

Mr. Seger’s body was taken to the chief medical examiner’s office in Augusta, where an autopsy was performed. Officers determined he suffered multiple blunt force injuries and classified his death as a homicide.

The police took the murder suspect into custody in the house the two men shared

An arrest warrant was issued for Fowler, who was arrested at his Lamb Street home shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening, December 3rd. He was charged with depraved indifference murder and taken to the Cumberland County Jail.
