Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai Hospital, although first responders revived him.

Police believe the incident was a targeted attack, and new developments have also revealed that Thompson received threats before he was shot.

Thompson’s wife, Paulette Thompson, told NBC News that she did not know the details of those threats; “All I know is that he said there were some people who threatened him.”

“It appears this was a targeted killing,” Mayor Eric Adams said during a news conference. “It clearly appeared to have been the target of an individual and we will arrest that individual.”

According to NBC News, Chief Detective Joseph Kenny, “The motive for this murder is unknown at this time.”

It’s unclear why exactly Thompson was targeted – and who specifically targeted him. However, according to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the suspect “lay in wait for several minutes.”

According to The Post, the shooter was described as a white male and was wearing a black face mask, a dark jacket and black and white sneakers.

Thompson is survived by his wife Paulette and two children in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
