MEN’S BASKETBALL | Hoyas use Late Burst to bring down St. Francis – The Hoya

The Georgetown University men’s basketball team prevailed against the pesky Saint Francis University Red Flash in the final moments of their game November 23rd Matchup to secure a crucial point 82-65 win.

At the start of the game it seemed like it was the Hoyas (7-1) would blow the doors off the Red Flash (3-6) after taking command 19:4 lead after just six minutes. Graduate guard Micah Peavy helped drive the strong start two 3-pointerswhile Sophomore guard Malik Mack punctuated the opening run with a hard and 1-point jump in the midrange.

However, the Red Flash prevailed and began to make up for the large deficit. The Pennsylvania squad – Two of their outstanding guards are out due to injuries – defended against the Hoyas’ early show of force with big attacks from the guards Bobby Rosenberger III And Riley Parker.

However, the Red Flash were unable to extend their lead of 36:33 Junior guard Jayden Epps scored a fantastic goal and -1 3-pointer to give the Hoyas a 37-36 lead heading to the locker room.

Just like the first, the second half began with a lightning-fast run by the Hoyas, who opened a lead 44:36 lead after a 7-0 run against the Red Flash. Peavy and his passing skills continued to drive the Georgetown machine while First-year center Thomas Sorber scored the Hoyas’ first four points of the second half.

Still, the Hoyas continued to be embroiled in a dogfight St. Francis responded with a 21-12 run over the next 10 minutes to take the lead for the second time, 57-56.

Epps once again fueled the Hoyas’ response, taking control of the game with a 3-pointer to give them a 59-57 lead. Georgetown was at its best in the final minutes of the game, using its size and athleticism to keep going 23-6 runClosure of St. Francis. Mack, Sorber and sophomore forward Jordan Burks scored 23 points off St. Francis’ 20 turnoverswhich created a lot of distance between the two teams in the final minutes of the game.

The Hoyas overcame tight situations both on the scoreboard and on the field and saw Sorber retreat to the locker room clutching his head following a loose ball fight after a collision late in the second half. Luckily, Sorber re-entered the game just a few minutes later, and his presence in the game proved crucial to the Hoyas’ hard-fought victory.

Georgetown men’s basketball will be back in action on the road on Friday, December 6th when they face the West Virginia Mountaineers (5-2) in the annual Big East-Big 12 Battle. The Mountaineers posted an impressive 2-1 performance in the Battle 4 Atlantis, securing third place with an 83-76 overtime win over the University of Arizona. Fans can watch the contest on ESPN2 at 7 p.m.
