The University of Alabama Museums invites visitors to enjoy the holidays with free events

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – The University of Alabama (UA) Museums invites visitors to enjoy the holidays with free events at the Gorgas House Museum, Paul W. Bryant Museum and Alabama Museum of Natural History.

UA officials say the Gorgas House Museum will have two different ways to celebrate the holidays with Victorian crafts, letters to Santa, tours and a new exhibit.

Visitors can write letters to Santa using vintage dipping pens and seal them with wax seals at the Gorgas House Museum on Saturday, December 7, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Big Al will make a special appearance dressed as Buddy the Elf from 2:45 p.m

The Gorgas House Museum will also host an open house on Friday, December 13th from 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Guests will tour the oldest building on campus decorated for the holidays. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served while supplies last.

The Paul W. Bryant Museum will host its annual open house on December 13 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Officials say the event will include food, drinks and activities for the whole family. Children can write a Christmas card to student-athletes and coaches from Big Al, UA. The museum shop offers clearance items. Former Crimson Tide football players will meet and greet, and Big Al will perform from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m

The Alabama Museum of Natural History is offering two tours on December 13th at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. According to authorities, advance registration via the museum’s website is preferred. Light refreshments will be served.

The Alabama Museum of Natural History also offers “Winter Wonderlab.”,, a practical exploration of the cold weather adaptations used by animals around the world. Guests can create their own cold creature to take home. The program begins at 11:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the Great Gallery. Pre-registration of participants is not required.

All events are free. Donations to UA museums are welcome.
