Potential spring rest days will become regular days following the Nov. 20-22 closure due to power outages

The Kent School District will use three optional snow days planned for the spring to offset the recent three-day closure of schools due to the storm that knocked out power last month.

The updated 2024-2025 district calendar now includes regular school days on March 28, April 18 and May 23. The district had planned these days as potential backup days if school was canceled due to snow.

Washington state requires every district to have at least 180 school days per school year.

Many of the Kent School District’s 44 schools lost power Nov. 20-22 after the Nov. 19-20 storm hit western Washington and hit eastern King County particularly hard.
