The South Georgia Christmas Tree Farm helps families in need

CAIRO, Ga. (WCTV) – A Christmas tree farm in south Georgia is spreading holiday cheer and getting Christmas trees into the homes of people who normally don’t have one.

This is the sixth year that Wheeler Christmas Tree Farm in Cairo has run the Angel Tree program. Each year, the farm works with agencies in the community to create a list of families in need of a Christmas tree. Then members of the community volunteer as “Christmas tree angels” and pay for half of the tree while the farm covers the other half.

Della Lovett, owner of Wheeler’s Christmas Tree Farm, said she loves helping families create Christmas memories.

“Maintaining dignity is very important to me, so they are treated no differently than any other customer. “I tell them it’s not Christmas until someone argues about which Christmas tree to cut down,” Lovett said. “It’s Christmas spirit. You can’t put a price on the Christmas spirit.”
