Where to Find Christmas Tree Lights in Philadelphia

‘Tis the season for Christmas lights and festivities. With tall trees and Christmas decorations popping up all over the city, we’ve put together some light shows and ceremonies for you to consider on your own calendars!

Wednesday, December 4th: Deck the Ave Tree Lighting

Join East Passyunk neighbors at the Singing Fountain from 5-7 p.m. for the annual tree lighting and free photo op with Santa (6 p.m.)! Christmas carols will be sung live by the Central High School Concert Choir, the City Rhythm Trio and HOME: The Fanny Coppin Rockin’ Band. There will also be special food and drink specials.

Wednesday, December 4: 8th Annual Historic Holiday Tree Lighting

At 6 p.m., visit the Betsy Ross House for the Old Town Tree Lighting, complete with music and dance performances from local schools and performance groups, as well as an appearance by Santa Claus.

Thursday, December 5th: Philly Holiday Tree Lighting + Pre-Show

The official lighting of the Philly Holiday Tree will take place at City Hall from 6 to 8 p.m., with a pre-show from 3 to 6 p.m. Students always take part in the performances; community leader; the cast of Broadway’s STOMP; Liamani, star of Disney’s “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series”; and Grammy-nominated actress Keyshia Cole. Food trucks and other vendors will also be on site.

Thursday December 5th: Evil Genius Beer Tree Lighting

This free, family-friendly event features live music, a special holiday beer tapping and the tree lighting ceremony (7:30 p.m.). (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.)

Friday, December 6th: uCity Square Holiday Fest

West Philly’s only tree lighting ceremony returns with local vendors, an ornament-making workshop, photos with Santa, a beer garden, live music and more. FREE. (4 p.m. to 7 p.m.)

Friday-Saturday, 6th-7th December: Happy Holidays from ROX

The festivities begin Friday at 5:30 p.m. with a tree lighting, live music and hot drinks at Roxborough Pocket Park (6170 Ridge Avenue). Then return to Ridge Ave on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. back to shop at the pop-up Christmas market, eat hot snacks and visit Santa in a fire truck at 3 p.m.

Miracle on South 13th Holiday Light Display

1600 block of South 13th Street
Until December 31st every day from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m

What started as just a few neighbors putting up lights has turned into a decades-long tradition in South Philly. Every weekend neighbors raise money for various charities. Check the neighborhood Facebook and Instagram pages for details.

You can drive through for a quick tour or walk down the block for a more leisurely tour. A note from the neighborhood: “If you visit, please do so respectfully and remember that these are our homes. Keep your voice down, pick up any trash and try not to touch the displays.”

2700 Smedley Street in South Philly features lights, decorations, displays and community events, including a mailbox for Santa.

Christmas on Kimball

800 block of Kimball Street
Every evening until January 1st

Macy’s Christmas Light Show

Macy’s Center City, 1300 Market St
Daily until December 31st.

Visitors to Macy’s can look up from their shopping several times a day during the holiday season to see a festive light show. The performance will also feature the massive 28,575-pipe Wanamaker Organ for the 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. performances on Friday and Saturday and the 6:00 p.m. performances Monday through Thursday.

Decorate the light show in the hall

Every hour on the hour from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. until January 1st

This show is projected onto the side of City Hall, transforming the historic building into a sparkling winter landscape or colorful psychedelic design. Between performances, Dilworth Park offers plenty of festive activities, including ice skating and drinking hot cider, hot chocolate, cocktails and mulled wine.
