Judges used record-breaking 3-point performance to defeat Framingham State 112-64

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men’s basketball team set a school record with 25 3-pointers tonight – tying the previous record of 17 at halftime – as the judges judged in a non-conference contest at Roten Auerbach Arena.

TEAM RECORDS

  • Brandeis, 6-1.
  • Framingham State, 6-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Judges’ previous school record of 17 3-pointers has been set twice – on February 18, 2017 against Washington University and again on December 8, 2019.
  • The Judges reached 17 trifectas by halftime after getting off to a blistering start. After missing the first attempt from beyond the arc, Brandeis scored 10 straight goals in the first 8:40 minutes of the game.
  • Meanwhile, FSU couldn’t get anything going, hitting just three free throws in that span while Brandeis led 38-3 less than halfway through the first half.
  • Judges would tie their record with their final 3-pointer of the half as a sophomore Jasper Schindler (Braunschweig, Germany/Shanghai American School) with 1:26 on the clock. Brandeis took a 67-21 lead into the locker room by finishing the stanza with 17 of 24 3-pointers (70.8%) and 24 of 35 overall (68.6%).
  • Meanwhile, FSU shot just 70f-27 overall (25.9%) and 3 of 9 from deep (33.3%) in the first half.
  • senior Toby Harris (Durham, NC/Durham Academy) and freshmen Elias Rodl (Berlin, Germany/School and Competitive Sports Center Berlin) had 16 and 14 points, respectively, as each had four 3-pointers in the first half.
  • With the lead secured, the second half was more even, with Brandeis defeating Framingham State 45-43. After the Judges missed their first three attempts from downtown, Harris scored the Judges’ record 18 with 15:10 remainingTh Trifecta of the night.
  • Rodl added two more three-pointers in the stanza to finish with a team-high six as a sophomore Kyle Walters (Mableton, Georgia/The Lovett School) connected on the 25thTh and final bomb with 3:06 remaining in the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Rodl led all players with a career-best 27 points, shooting a total of 10 of 12, 6 of 8 from deep and 1 of 3 from the line, in just 21 minutes of play. It was his second game of the season with more than 20 points.
  • Harris scored 19 points in 18 minutes and shot 7 of 10 overall, including 5 of 6 from long range. This was the first time this season that he did not lead the judges.
  • Walters set a career high with 17 points on a perfect shooting night – 6 of 6 from the field, 4 of 4 from distance and 1 of 1 from the line.
  • Junior Ethan Edwards (Brooklyn, NY/Woodstock Academy) finished with 15 points and first year Ryan Weiss (Hewlett, NY/North Broward Prep) added a career-high 10.
  • The judges also dominated the panels 39 to 25, with Edwards, Weiss and a graduate student Aedan used (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) Everyone grabs seven.
  • PhD student Sam Adusei (Worcester, Mass./St. George’s School) posted a career-high 10 assists.
  • In total, nine of the eleven active players on the Brandeis squad hit at least one three-pointer, followed by Rodl’s six and Harris’ five.
  • Judges’ 25 3-pointers tied with UAA rivals New York University for the highest point total in NCAA Division III this season.
  • Brandeis finished the game shooting 58.5% (38-65) and 58.1% from distance (25-43), while Framingham State shot 39.6% (21-53) overall and 41.7% from long range the city center (10-24).
  • FSU’s Calvin Johnson led the visitors with 18 points off the bench, while Kyle Philistin had 11. No Ram player had more than three rebounds, while Adonis Vashon had three assists.

  • The judges will travel to Medford, Mass., this weekend where they will face Bates College on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. and No. 16-ranked Tufts on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the UAA Winter Challenge.
