According to reports, the suspect in the UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting did not use a Citi bike to escape

CNN reports that according to an unnamed law enforcement source, the person who shot UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside the Hilton hotel in midtown Manhattan fled on an e-bike, but not a Citi bike. as NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenney previously said during a press conference.

Thompson was scheduled to appear at the company’s investor meeting, but it was canceled several hours later. Kenney said it appeared the killer “targeted” Thompson and “at this point we don’t know why,” the CEO’s wife, Paulette Thompson, said NBC News that there were “some threats.”

In an email to The edgeLyft spokesman Eric Smith previously said the company was “ready to assist law enforcement.” Had the shooter used one of Lyft’s bikes, it may have left a digital trail and GPS data while the shooter was renting or using the vehicle.

Other updates from CNN sources say investigators have recovered a cellphone that may belong to them in the alley where the attacker ran after the shooting, as well as a bottle of water that he had just purchased at a Starbucks along with two PowerBars had before the attack. Additionally, it said police have a video of the suspect from early that morning in which he was “carrying what appeared to be an electric bicycle battery.”

Another element is what law enforcement called the attacker’s “distinctive” backpack. Many people believe that it is the Peak Design Everyday Backpack V1 in charcoal or ash color based on its shape, color, and straps seen in the Starbucks pictures.

The NYPD shared images of the shooter, including one on a bicycle, and asked anyone with “information regarding the identity or whereabouts of this individual” to contact police at 1-800-577-TIPS. Accordingly, police officers were seen asking for video footage of a Citi Bike kiosk on Madison Avenue and 82nd Street in Manhattan early Wednesday afternoon The New York Times.
