Metro Atlanta Lawyer Arrested for Setting Neighbor’s Car on Fire – WSB-TV Channel 2

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. – A metro Atlanta attorney is facing arson charges after he was accused of setting his neighbor’s car on fire.

On Wednesday, Cory Simmons was granted a $25,000 bond. The judge also said he would not be allowed to be across the street from the victim while the case was pending.

“I’ve never met anyone like that before,” said neighbor Charles Tye Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes.

Tye says Simmons moved in and began harassing neighbors by calling law enforcement and knocking on windows. Simmons was even arrested for damaging Tye’s mailbox.

That’s when, according to Tye, his cars mysteriously started catching fire, even exploding at one point.

“No sleep, just alert, alert, stressed all the time. You can tell that it’s bothering me, that my body is breaking down, everything. It was a lot,” he said.

Police arrested Simmons and charged him with arson, but Tye wants him charged in two additional arson counts.

“He was already in prison. So who’s to say he won’t come back? You know? Who says he won’t burn down another vehicle or my house?” Tye questioned.

He added that he believes Simmons’ arrest took so long because his actions were out of character for a lawyer.

About three weeks ago, Fernandes visited Simmons’ house and he denied being involved in arson. Now that he’s been arrested, she wants to work on getting his side of the story.
