MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama House of Representatives Majority Leader Scott Stadthagen, R-Hartselle, announced Wednesday that Rep. Randall Shedd, R-Fairview, has been honored with the House Republican Caucus Iron Award, given to representatives of the Republican Party is awarded, whose words: Deeds and actions strengthen teamwork and help colleagues to achieve their full potential.

The Iron Award, voted on by members of the House Republican Caucus, is based on the Bible verse Proverbs 27:17, which reads: “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”

“Rep. Shedd is always ready to offer his Republican colleagues in the House a word of encouragement, optimistic advice and a simple, everyday kindness whenever possible,” Stadthagen said. “This award demonstrates that he has earned the trust, confidence and admiration of members of the House Republican Caucus, and he sets a strong example for others to follow.”

Shedd, who as House majority leader is responsible for counting votes on upcoming bills and measures as well as communicating with Republican members on the floor, said he was touched and humbled by the recognition.

“Some people say grown men shouldn’t cry, but when I was told I was going to receive this award, this old man’s eyes watered,” Shedd said. “As supermajority lawmakers, we have a rare opportunity to make life better for our neighbors and the people of Alabama, so let’s not waste a minute.”

Before his election to the Alabama House of Representatives in a 2013 special election, Shedd served as chairman of the Cullman County Commission and mayor of Fairview, Alabama. Shedd is the second recipient of the Iron Award, which has become an annual award given by the House Republican Caucus. Rep. Alan Baker, R-Brewton, received the inaugural award at its inception last year.
