Role for Hoffman when Martin returns?

I’m torn. Zack Martin had a great career, but he’s just not the same player anymore. Brock Hoffman’s ceiling will likely never be as high as Martin’s once was, but he brings youth and a certain nastiness to the offensive line that I felt was missing. Is there a role for him when Martin returns? Or, dare I say, is it time to make a permanent change? – Sam Nelson/Oklahoma City, OK

Patrick: In my opinion, it is not time to hold the future first ballot for Hall of Famers. Yes, it’s true that Martin hasn’t been himself over the course of the 2024 season, but a big reason for this downturn is the fact that for the first time in his illustrious professional career, he wasn’t just dealing with multiple injuries that hampered him his piece. The former Ironman is definitely at the peak of his career, but if this is to be his swansong, he’s earned the right to walk out on his shield. And after getting some rest in recent weeks, his return should result in better play from a healthier version of the perennial All-Pro. Hoffman was exactly what the Cowboys expected him to be and has a bright future ahead of him, but the key word there is “future.”

Tommy: I don’t think it’s time to make lasting change yet. If Zack Martin is healthy, which he certainly hasn’t been at points this season, then he’s your best option at right back. If he heals significantly during this break before the start of Monday Night Football, I think it’s a no-brainer to play him. How about the idea of using Brock Hoffman in some heavy packages when it comes to how he can get involved? The Cowboys ran two plays with Matt Waletzko declared eligible to play against the Giants. Why not give Hoffman a chance there to get him on the field and give you some extra power? If not, I think his current role of filling in when needed is valuable, especially considering how banged up Dallas has been all year.
