Michigan is revoking the license of Livonia car dealership for allegedly selling used cars as new

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich – A dealer in Michigan had his license revoked by the state for allegedly selling used and new cars.

LaFontaine Motors of Livonia Inc., also known as LaFontaine Hyundai of Livonia, has had its license revoked for several alleged violations of the Michigan Vehicle Code. The alleged violations included falsifying documents in order to lease used vehicles as new vehicles.

The Michigan Department of State (MDOS) has identified the following suspected violations:

  • It falsely claimed that a customer had not taken delivery of a vehicle in order to lease it as a new vehicle to another customer

  • Falsely certifying a vehicle as new on an MDOS title and registration application

  • Make a used vehicle look like new

  • There is not an immediate title with properly completed odometer information

  • Failing to complete the MDOS Application for Title and Registration

  • A provisional registration is not issued properly

  • Do not apply for title and registration on behalf of a buyer within 21 days of vehicle delivery

In the investigation conducted by MDOS, regulators learned that LaFontaine’s corporate office allegedly suggested submitting false information, even after MDOS and the Michigan Automobile Dealers Association issued memos reiterating what a vehicle was considered to be under the Michigan Vehicle Code marked as “used”.

The MDOS is reviewing the case for possible referral to the Attorney General.
