With the outstanding performances that Patrick Surtain II shows each week for the Denver Broncos, Alabama continues to assert its claim as a Defensive Back University.

Surtain’s performance has earned him high NFL honors and he was named the NFL’s AFC Defensive Player of the Month.

So far this season, Surtain has started all 12 games for the Broncos, totaling 31 tackles, nine pass breakups, three picks, one pick-six and one tackle for loss.

Surtain has been a shutdown cornerback for the Broncos since they drafted him with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was named to a Pro Bowl twice in his career in 2022 and 2023 and was named First Team All-Pro in 2022.

He’s expected to be named to the Pro Bowl again in 2024 and has a case to be made for being named an NFL All-Pro again. Surtain has even made waves in the NFL Defensive Player of the Year discussion, with third-best odds for the award behind Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker TJ Watt and Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney.

Surtain’s next game is Sunday, December 15th when the Denver Broncos host the Indianapolis Colts at 3:25 p.m. CT.

Surtain is the first Denver Bronco to earn Player of the Month honors since Will Lutz in November 2023 and the first defensive player to earn the award since Von Miller in 2021.
