Harry Potter | “We’re going to have a lot of fun with Peeves!” – New details about the Harry Potter TV series and 2025 production date announced in Leavesden

Exciting news today from Harry Potter HQ – where we learned more details about the upcoming HBO original series, which begins production in summer 2025 and is set to debut on Max. Expect to see characters not seen in the original films and various locations involved – and also discover how many people auditioned as Harry, Ron and Hermione! But despite the new additions, the series returns to its roots, where the original films were filmed, and returns to Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.

With the HBO original series now officially underway, we heard from director Mark and Francesca about their own love for the stories (“I’m a mega-fan like crazy!” Francesca confessed) and the creative vision they brought to them want to bring in, expressed retelling of the show.

“We have eight hours to tell the first book,” they revealed, “so we can get into the real depths and crevices and learn how the language of magic can evolve.”

“We follow the films ethos of attracting some of the best British talent,” Mark added.

“Basically, we’re obsessed!” they joked.

We also learned that over 30,000 (!) people auditioned for the roles of Harry, Ron and Hermione during the open casting earlier this year, and although the golden trio has not yet been cast, Mark Mylod admitted that they are “everyone.” “individual auditions” have seen. and there are “a few crackers.”

The new Harry Potter series will be a new adaptation of the books, delving deeper into Harry’s story and featuring a brand new cast for both old and new fans. The showrunners also teased characters in the show that we didn’t have in the films – like the mischievous poltergeist Peeves!

Famous locations will of course return – but Mark Mylod was also excited to explore other places he’d never seen before, such as the Hogwarts staff room.

“We assumed that Hogwarts was a real place,” he explained, hoping to explore the ancient castle’s architectural themes and their evolution over time.

“So there will be elements of Georgian architecture, attempts at naturalism. Because of course we have the luxury of telling long stories.”

“We both really like the films, they are great, what an amazing feat of creative pursuit,” Francesca said. “We’re getting a bigger sandbox to play in.”

Mark and Francesca were also keen to canonically pinpoint the ages of certain characters, citing that Snape would have been only 31 in 1991 when the events took place Philosopher’s Stone take place.

“No one can replace Alan Rickman, but we can find the next generation,” they added.

As we announced earlier this year, the show will be executive produced by JK Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films – while Francesca Gardiner (showrunner) will also serve as director Mark Mylod serves as executive producer.

We hope these little magical tidbits whet your appetite for our big return to the Harry Potter stories!
