Extreme winter weather records in Boise, Idaho

While Boise has experienced several major winter storms since “Snowmageddon” in 2016-2017, this particular winter seems to be the common experience that unites everyone.

We understand it. As 39.1 inches of snow piled up this winter, the Treasure Valley had to contend with constant snow slides on I-84, seemingly endless Christmas holidays for students and a temporary mall closure due to weather. About halfway through the snowfall, the Idaho National Guard joined in the cleanup effort after then-Mayor Bieter declared a state of emergency for Boise.

This may be the winter everyone remembers, but it wasn’t the snowiest Boise winter ever. It’s actually ranked No. 10. Exactly 100 years before this winter, Boise experienced its snowiest winter on record: 50 inches accumulated in the winter of 1916-1917.

2024-2025 Winter Outlook for Boise

Will Boise break that record this winter? While we would be happy about the water, we don’t want to relive the floods that followed Snowmageddon in 2016-2017.
