YouTuber freezes to death in snowstorm, but dad vows to find his tracks

22-year-old YouTuber Storm De Beul froze to death in a freak snowstorm in Finland, although his father vows to retrace his steps and find his last recordings.

According to local authorities, De Beul was found dead on October 30, 2024. While traveling alone through the mountains of Lapland, the 22-year-old was caught in the middle of a devastating snowstorm.

Despite contacting the emergency services, help could not be provided in time. When the snowfall subsided and a helicopter was dispatched, it was too late to save him.

De Beul was found some distance from his campsite. Messages obtained by Belgian media included a number of final comments. “It snows heavily here. But don’t worry, I’ll survive, you know,” he sent to his grandmother.

A final video was also sent to a friend in which De Beul showed how intense the snow was getting, claiming: “It’s going to get worse tonight.”

For fun, De Beul followed YouTube and shared 14 videos of his adventures in the Swedish wilderness before his death. Many have been seen thousands of times and his latest upload now has almost 50,000 views as viewers flock to offer their condolences.

The financially wealthy 22-year-old was known for regularly leaving the scene and exploring on his own, often preferring to be alone, as his father explained.

When the body was discovered, “his feet and lower legs were frozen,” his mother said. “His hands weren’t there, maybe he still had his hand warmers with him.” She also explained that his nose was also broken, indicating a fall.

“He must have suffered for a long time and died alone,” his mother said. “I keep imagining his final moments. It devastates me.”

Given the amount of snow caused by the storm, those who were first on the scene were reportedly unable to thoroughly investigate the site of De Beul’s death. That’s why his father has vowed to set out himself as soon as the weather clears, hoping to find his camera equipment and capture his last captured moments.

“His videos are an invaluable legacy for us. But now his camera is somewhere in the snow, full of pictures from his very last hike. I would love nothing more than to get it back.

“I know the chances are slim, but I have to try.”
