Early betting odds for Covington vs. Buckley fight card

The UFC Tampa fight card is getting closer and closer. The event takes place on December 14th at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida and is the final fight card on the UFC’s 2024 schedule. The main event is a high-risk welterweight bout between former interim champion Colby Covington and the up-and-coming Joaquin Buckley. Below we look at the early betting odds for the UFC Tampa: Covington vs. Buckley fight card.

UFC Tampa Fight Card: Colby Covington

Colby Covington (17-4) enters the UFC Tampa fight card as the No. 6 fighter in the official UFC welterweight rankings. The 36-year-old captured the interim UFC welterweight crown in June 2018 with a decision victory over Rafael dos Anjos. However, Covington never took part in a title unification fight as the UFC stripped Covington of the title due to his inability to face then-champion Tyron Woodley due to Covington’s inability to compete following nose surgery.

Covington had a shot at the title in December 2019, but lost that fight by TKO to Kamaru Usman. Covington bounced back from that loss with a TKO victory over Tyron Woodley. In his next outing, Covington again failed to take the title from Usman and lost by decision in 2021.

In his only fight of 2022, Covington scored a decision over Jorge Masvidal. He then had a third shot at UFC gold, but Edwards defeated him by decision in that fight in December 2023. Covington has not competed since that loss.

UFC Tampa Fight Card: Joaquin Buckley

Joaquin Buckley (20-6) is the No. 9 ranked fighter in the UFC’s 170-pound weight class. Buckley, 30, has had a pretty good run since his demotion and will remain at welterweight in 2023.

Buckley is 6-0 during his current run at welterweight with three knockouts and three decision wins. He has already fought three times in 2024, earning a knockout win over Vicente Luque, a decision win over Nursulton Ruziboev and most recently a knockout win over two-time UFC title challenger Stephen Thompson. Buckley’s victory over Thompson came in October.
