The meteorological winter starts off warm with temperatures in the 70s

Good morning, Central Coast!

Sunday marked not only the beginning of December, but also the beginning of meteorological winter. In contrast to the usual (astronomical) system in meteorology, we mark the seasons according to the months with the coldest average temperature. Now that we’re in winter, it’s even rarer to experience the warm temperatures that are our story for the week.

We start the day with wonderfully clear conditions and calm winds. Check out this festive look at Pismo Beach!

Temperatures will climb into the 70s in most locations, enjoy the sun and be much warmer than normal. To illustrate, the “normal” high temperature in Paso Robles on December 2nd is just 62 degrees.

However, there is some cloud cover heading our way. A small area of low pressure just off our coast will push some high cloud cover ashore during the day today.

These clouds will remain in place for about 48 hours and dissipate by midweek. Temperatures will remain comfortably in the 70s throughout the week.

Even in the longer forecast, the Climate Prediction Center expects temperatures to remain warmer than normal and dry conditions to prevail until mid-December.

I wish you a wonderful day and a great week!
