Yankees have no plans to reunite with Anthony Rizzo, Gleyber Torres: report

It appears the Yankees are ready to move on from two of their starting infielders.

As things currently stand, New York has no plans to pursue this either Anthony Rizzo or Gleyber Torres “I’m in free agency this offseason,” YES Network’s Jack Curry said on Monday night’s edition of Yankees Hot Stove.

Both players expressed interest in returning, but it appears the club has other plans.

For most of his three years in the Big Apple, Rizzo served as a solid leader and steady left-handed hitter, but his offensive production ultimately declined as he battled injury bugs in each of the last two seasons.

The Yankees could hand things over to the youngster Ben Rice at first base, or they could make a big move on a free agent Pete Alonso or three-time Gold Glover Christian Walker.

Torres enjoyed many great moments in the pinstripe jersey, but his streaky bat, questionable baserunning and shaky defense left something to be desired at times.

If things don’t change, Curry said he would be willing to bet on the 24-year-old top contender Caleb Durbin will be part of the Yankees’ opening team and there is a possibility he could be there as Torres’ replacement.

Durbin was recently added to the 40-man roster and excelled during the Arizona Fall League with two doubles, a triple, five home runs and 29 stolen bases in 21 games.
