Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield reveal why they kissed at the 2017 Golden Globes

Andrew Garfield and Ryan Reynolds have nothing but fond memories as they look back on their iconic kiss at the Golden Globes.

We recently sat down to interview each other about their films We live in time And Deadpool and Wolverine for diversityGarfield, 41, and Reynolds, 48, chatted for a moment about the last time they saw each other — the 2017 Golden Globes, where they kissed after Reynolds lost the best actor award to Ryan Gosling for La-La Land.

“The last time I saw you was at the Golden Globes,” Reynolds tells Garfield during the conversation. “Garfield sat next to me and said, ‘Hey, when they call your name and you win, don’t kiss your wife (Blake Lively), just kiss me.’

“And of course Gosling absolutely didn’t deserve it,” he said Dead Pool Actor joked to laugh Amazing Spider-Man alum before clarifying, “I’m a real crazy fan of his.”

“I love that we just sat there and thought, ‘Ah, let’s do it anyway,'” Reynolds finished, recalling that the Golden Globes cameras only captured the moment in a wide-angle shot from across the room , and viewers didn’t notice their kiss until later in the night.

Garfield also told Reynolds that he was “glad you were willing” to share a kiss, even if it was just in jest.

“Looking back, I also felt a little insensitive to Ryan’s moment,” agreed Garfield Reynolds, and the two shared that they were glad there was such a wide shot of the moment.

“No one noticed until later and it was actually kind of perfect,” Reynolds joked.

Shortly after the 2017 Golden Globes, Garfield spoke to Stephen Colbert about his intimate moment with Reynolds Late show in the same year.

“What was going on?” Colbert asked him at the time, holding up a photo of the hickey.

“I just wanted Ryan to know that I love him whether he won or lost,” Garfield joked.

“It doesn’t matter,” he continued. “He showed up. It doesn’t change anything in my heart.”

Elsewhere in their conversation, the actors spoke about their love for each other’s work. Garfield shared his awe at what he referred to as “meta-ness.” Dead Pool.

“As soon as (Deadpool and Wolverine) started, I thought, ‘There’s no way they allowed him to do all that.’ ‘How the hell…?'” he recalls of the first time he saw the blockbuster. “You are the main writer of this film. But I don’t know anyone else who does that, peeling back the onion of self-awareness and meta-ness while keeping their heart and providing a real service to fans while being funny at the same time. The layers of self-irony are hard to decipher.

Reynolds also revealed that when it comes to himself and Lively, Garfield “can do no wrong in our house.”

“We love you in our house and and and your work and your dedication,” Reynolds gushed. “You’re doing something only you can do, and that’s a beautiful thing to see in action.”
