Amber Alert Suspect Arrested for Murder, Kidnapping The Longmont Leader

A woman accused of shooting a man and kidnapping his child was arrested Monday in southeastern Colorado.

Crystal Denmon, 26, faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and first-degree kidnapping.

Authorities were able to safely locate the 7-year-old boy after an Amber Alert was issued earlier in the day.

Shooting and Amber Alert

According to police, the incident began early Monday morning in Lakewood, Colorado.

Denmon allegedly shot a man in an apartment on Kendall Street around 6 a.m

The seriously injured man was taken to hospital for treatment.

After the shooting, officers discovered the man’s 7-year-old son was missing.

Because Denmon believed she had kidnapped the child, an Amber Alert was issued warning that she was “armed and dangerous.”

Law enforcement agencies across the state began searching for the suspect and the boy.

Arrest and recovery of the child

Denmon and the child were later spotted near the town of Cheraw, about 190 miles southeast of Denver.

Authorities located her in Washington County, where the child was safely recovered around 3:45 p.m

Denmon was arrested shortly thereafter without further incident. The uninjured boy was reunited with his family later that evening.

Law enforcement thanked the Amber Alert system and the public’s vigilance for quickly resolving the case.

Legal and investigation updates

Denmon is currently in custody on a $500,000 cash bond and faces charges including attempted murder, first-degree kidnapping and burglary.

Court documents show she was placed under a no-contact order that prohibited her from having contact with the boy’s father.

Prosecutors also allege Denmon threatened the father’s girlfriend just two weeks before the shooting.

The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office has until Dec. 4 to file formal charges.

Meanwhile, investigators continue to collect evidence in the case.

This incident has raised questions about domestic violence and child safety and highlighted the importance of community awareness when responding to Amber Alerts.
