UPDATED, 10:54 a.m.: Welcome back to the New Orleans Saints live blog. I’m Zach Ewing, deputy editor of the Times-Picayune, here to bring you updates, analysis and social media reaction to the Saints’ home game against the Washington Commanders.

It will be the first time the Saints will actually play against the Washington franchise when it was known as the Commanders. The teams’ last meeting was in 2021, when only the Washington Football Team competed. Of course, all previous meetings took place before the Redskins name change.

Today’s inactive report includes some notable names. One for the Saints is quarterback Derek Carr – no surprise after he was demoted yesterday following a hand injury and concussion late in last week’s win at New York. The little surprise is defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon, who was signed to the active roster this week and appeared ready for his season debut after suffering an offseason Achilles tendon injury. But he is not active.

On the Washington side, kicker Zane Gonzalez is out, meaning Greg Joseph will be the kicker promoted to the practice squad. Saints fans may remember that Gonzalez had a nightmarish day here for the Cleveland Browns in 2018, missing two field goals and two extra points in a narrow loss to the Saints; The Browns cut him the next day and signed… Greg Joseph as his replacement.

Also inactive for the Browns is wide receiver KJ Osborn. With Noah Brown also added to injured reserve this week, Jamison Crowder – activated from IR – will be added to the rotation as a receiver.
