When you’re thinking about retirement, the term “most livable for seniors” is a popular search term because, let’s face it, if you’ve been busting your butt for 40 to 50 years, you want your “golden years” somewhere nice spend. No one wants to deal with problems like the “lack” of affordable housing, healthcare, and a clean city.

In a recent Reader’s Digest article, they addressed the biggest concerns for those retiring (seniors).

  • Walkable, convenient neighborhoods
  • Reliable public transport
  • Clean environments
  • Healthcare nearby
  • Social activities
  • Growth opportunities

“Within these seven categories, AARP used 61 indicators to determine a community’s quality of life.”

Where are the most livable cities in New Jersey for seniors?

Reader’s Digest has two New Jersey cities on its top 10 list. Both cities are in Bergen County.

  1. Great Neck Plaza, New York: 73
  2. Aspen, Colo.: 70
  3. Gunnison, Colo.: 69
  4. Montpelier, Vermont: 68
  5. Takoma Park, Maryland: 68
  6. Falls Church, Virginia: 68
  7. Fairview, New Jersey: 68
  8. La Crescent, Minn.: 68
  9. Winterset, Iowa: 68
  10. Cliffside Park, New Jersey: 68

New Jersey and Colorado are the only two states to have two cities in the top 10 list. “Interestingly, nine of these cities belong to the “small” category with populations between 5,000 and 24,999 residents. Cliffside Park, New Jersey is ranked 10th overall and ranks highest among mid-sized cities with a population of 25,000 to 99,999.”
