Court documents show that employees witnessed a colleague stabbing the company’s president

MUSKEGON, MI – Several employees of a Muskegon-area manufacturer witnessed their boss being stabbed by a co-worker during a company meeting Tuesday, court records show.

The alleged attacker, Nathan Joseph Mahoney, is now charged with attempted murder in connection with the altercation at the Anderson Express in Fruitport Township.

Erik Denslow, company president, is expected to make a full and rapid recovery, an Anderson Express spokesman said. Investigators have not revealed a motive for the attack.

The stabbing was reported at 9:23 a.m. on Tuesday, December 17, at a store on South Mill Road.

Fruitport Township police detailed their investigation in an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by MLive/Muskegon Chronicle.

When officers arrived at the store Tuesday morning, they learned that Denslow had been stabbed on his right side, just below his ribcage. The stabbing was witnessed by several other employees, all of whom gave consistent statements to police.

Witnesses say Mahoney, 31, entered the conference room wearing a black medical mask. He walked toward Denslow before stabbing a red-handled knife with a four-inch blade into Denslow’s side, the affidavit said.

Mahoney then fled in a BMW but was arrested by Muskegon County Sheriff’s deputies in the Ravenna area.

Employees described Mahoney as having a calm demeanor, police said.

Mahoney was arraigned in Muskegon County District Court on Wednesday, December 18th. He is charged with attempted murder and fourth-degree escape. Mahoney is expected to appear in court again on Dec. 26 for a probable cause hearing.

“We remain shocked by the incident that occurred at our facility yesterday,” an Anderson Express spokesperson said in a statement. “Our first thought goes to our president, who has a good prognosis for a full and speedy recovery. We are also focused on supporting our employees as they process this senseless attack.”
