Joel Klatt on Beau Pribula entering the transfer portal before the College Football Playoff: ‘I hate it’

Joel Klatt of Fox Sports hates the situation Beau Pribula and like that Penn State Quarterback entered the transfer portal before the College Football Playoffs.

Pribula wasn’t the starter, but he played a role in the Nittany Lions’ offense. The problem for Klatt is the date of the portal window, which puts Pribula in an impossible situation.

With starter Drew Allar set to return in 2025, Pribula had to make a decision for his future and that was to try to start somewhere else.

“I hate it for Beau Pribula, and in his tweet he mentions the fact that he hates being in this situation,” Klatt said on his podcast. “And why is he in this situation? Because the transfer portal is open during the season and will close on December 28th… The NCAA has built an incredibly flawed system that is impossible for these young men to navigate. The fact that we still have an open transfer portal during the season is crazy. We have to fix this. We absolutely need to fix this.”

Pribula will visit Ole Miss and Indiana after watching UCF as he looks for his next destination. Meanwhile, Penn State hosts SMU in the first round on Saturday at noon ET.

“I actually think he’s going to regret this later in his life,” Klatt said. “I’m sitting here now at 42 years old. Do I think he’s probably trying to cope as best he can? Yes, absolutely, absolutely, he’s trying. Is he stuck in an impossible situation? Yes. And once again, those in power are making decisions and creating systems that are bad for the people who actually participate in the sport. The players are the ones who are injured. Having this transfer portal open in December while the season is still underway, and more importantly when the College Football Playoff is underway, hurts the players because Beau Pribula had no real choice…

“The transfer portal for a quarterback is like musical chairs, and success as a quarterback depends heavily on his fitness. So if you want to start somewhere as a quarterback, you have to find the right chair.”
