A Sheetz location near Bellefonte is set to reopen after demolishing the old store and building a new one over the past five and a half months.

The new convenience store and gas station at 2850 Benner Pike in Benner Township will open at 10 a.m. Friday, a Sheetz spokesperson told StateCollege.com.

Sheetz closed its Bellefonte-area location on July 7 to demolish the existing 13-year-old store and build a modern model. During the closure, employees were offered positions at other locations.

In addition to a new 6,139-square-foot building with indoor and outdoor seating, the remodeled Sheetz has added a drive-thru and a new car wash. The gas station has gas pumps for 12 vehicles.

The reopening of the store, just off Interstate 99, comes in time for a busy weekend in Center County as Penn State hosts its first college football playoff game, starting in the fall and holiday travel begins.

Conversions to match updated design models are not uncommon for Sheetz. In Center County, the company’s stores on Shiloh Road, Valley Vista Drive and North Atherton Street in Patton Township have all been remodeled in the last decade.

The updated Sheetz is among several new projects on the busy Benner Pike corridor. A new one McDonald’s opened in June at the Paradise Road intersection, where another developer also wants to build one nearby Arby’s Restaurant.

The construction of two new hotels is underway: a Tru by Hilton next to GM McCrossin and across from Bellefonte Lanes and a dual brand Avid and Candlewood Suites at the intersection of Amberleigh Lane.

Directly across from Sheetz near Eagle Point intersection, Rival Wawa has filed plans for one of its first locations in Center County.
