Thunderbolts* star Julia Louis-Dreyfus teased Val's origins, but my nerd heart beats faster because of the sweet gift her husband gave her after she got the role

Captain America: Brave New World starts the series of upcoming Marvel films in the 2025 film program, and lightning* will follow a few months later and, among others, will give Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine another platform to shine. In fact, the actress has hinted that her character’s origins will finally be explored in the 36th Marvel film. However, I’m particularly impressed by the sweet gift Louis-Dreyfus’ husband gave her when she landed her MCU role, which gives me a nerdy feeling.

In her interview with EW, Louis-Dreyfus not only shared how she manages to keep MCU spoilers secret even from her family, but also shared the following about this special gift and what’s in store for Valentina next year lightning*:

When I got this assignment, my husband got me the first Marvel comic where her character is revealed. It’s the original, isn’t that cool? But yes, some of her previous plans will be revealed and you will better understand why she behaves the way she does.

The problem that Julia Louis-Dreyfus is referring to is Strange stories No. 159, which was published in August 1967. She was introduced during the Agents of SHIELD directed by Jim Steranko, which ran until issue #168 and whose paths crossed with Nick Fury. She became Fury’s lover and one of the high-ranking members of the international spy agency. The Seinfeld alum isn’t the first to play Valentina in live-action (that honor goes to Lisa Rinna in 1998). Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD (TV movie starring David Hasselhoff), this is undoubtedly the character’s most prominent appearance outside of the comics, so I’m glad Louis-Dreyfus’ husband gave her this issue to commemorate the large cast.

As for those “earlier plans” that Louis-Dreyfus mentioned, it would be nice to finally have the “better understanding” that emerges about Valentina Allegra de Fontaine lightning*. Except that she was previously married to Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross, as revealed in Black Panther: Wakanda Foreverwe know nothing about her past. What we do know is that she has been planning her schemes for years and has recruited people like Yelena Belova and John Walker to help her. Whatever she’s planning will come to a head lightning*but she has more than cemented her status as a sinister version of Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.
