Who will be playing on Monday Night Football in Week 17?

The NFL’s Week 17 schedule is packed with national windows and ends with the finale Monday Night Football Regular season game. While ESPN will still be able to broadcast two games on Saturday of Week 18, the Week 17 game will be the last of the regular season in the network’s traditional Monday night time slot.

The matchup assigned for this slot is usually big and still has big consequences for one of the teams involved, which is good for ESPN after Green Bay’s 34-0 win over the Saints in Week 16 earned its first shutout of the season received to secure the Packers a spot in the playoffs. Which two NFL teams will play the final regular season football game in calendar year 2024?

The final game of the season on Monday night is a rematch of the 2023 NFC Championship Game between the Detroit Lions and the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium. While the league was hoping for a game with massive playoff implications in this slot, it only matters for the Lions since the 49ers have been eliminated from postseason contention thanks to Week 16 results.

Detroit bounced back from a shootout loss to the Buffalo Bills with a blowout win over the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field to improve to 13-2 on the season. If the Packers can beat the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Detroit will have a chance to close out the NFC North with a win as they already have the common opponent tiebreaker against Minnesota.

This spot will be the final national appearance of the year for San Francisco, which lost to the Miami Dolphins in Week 16. So maybe the 49ers will come out of this game with some pride. There will be no Manningcast for Week 17 as Peyton and Eli are taking the week off for the holidays.
