The weather continues to be very mild with rain across most of Minnesota

The thaw continues Thursday with temperatures above freezing across most of the state. A few light showers are possible later in the day, with a better chance of rain Friday into Saturday.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for southeastern Minnesota through midday Thursday due to freezing drizzle.

Skies will remain foggy and hazy Thursday as the mild air mass sits over our melting snowpack. Highs will be above freezing across most of the state Thursday afternoon.

Overnight temperatures will be very mild and above freezing across much of central and southern Minnesota to western Wisconsin.

Temperatures will be even warmer Friday and Saturday, with low 40s in southern Minnesota.

Some patchy and light showers are possible later Thursday and into Thursday night, with a greater chance of more widespread, isolated showers developing Friday into the weekend.

Widespread rainfall of a quarter of an inch to a half of an inch or more could occur in east-central Minnesota and along the North Coast through the weekend.

There could be snow on Saturday, especially in the north, as some colder air moves into the system from higher up.

We need to watch for an accumulation of slushy snowfall, particularly in the north, Saturday into Saturday night. Most models favor northeast Minnesota for possible snowfall Saturday.

The mild weather will continue into early next week and there are signs that we will finally cool down to normal temperatures by mid-week. The normal maximum temperatures on New Year’s Day are between 16 degrees north and 25 degrees south.
