Tottenham complete £12.5m signing of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky | Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have completed their first signing of the January transfer window with Slavia Prague goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. The 21-year-old completed a medical with Tottenham on Saturday and signed a contract until 2031 worth £12.5 million plus add-ons.

Spurs will be without first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario after he broke his ankle in a 4-0 win at Manchester City on November 23 and he is expected to be sidelined until the end of February.

Fraser Forster initially served well as a substitute but Tottenham have won just two of their last 11 games in all competitions due to an injury crisis and the England international missed Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle through illness. This led to Brandon Austin being forced into the starting line-up on his club debut, but the north London club have moved quickly to strengthen Ange Postecoglou’s depleted squad, now the window is open.

“It was great to sign the contract,” said Kinsky, whose father, Antonin Sr., earned five caps for the Czech Republic as a goalkeeper. “Tottenham is a big name in Europe, especially in the Czech Republic, so it is a great honor for me. I spoke to the coaches and the athletic director and really felt like this would be the right choice. I really like playing with my feet. I’m looking forward to training and hopefully the games. That’s the goal of every player, to be on the pitch.

“My father was a great role model for me. He is involved in every decision I make. He told me this was a great opportunity to try.”

The Czech Republic U21 international played 29 games for Slavia Prague this season, keeping 14 clean sheets. After starting his career at Dukla Prague, Kinsky moved across town to Slavia in 2021 and has established himself as a regular after loan spells at Vyskov and Pardubice, but will now continue his career in England.
