Gaffney came together to save Sharon Goodwin

Archer’s military instincts came into play when he saw a panicked Goodwin rushing to her office after escaping the elevator. As Goodwin and her attacker fought over the knife, Goodwin was inches away from being stabbed in the throat. But Archer’s interruption provided the distraction Goodwin needed to turn the blade on her attacker, ending the bloody battle.

Goodwin began to disappear as soon as Archer picked her up and carried her to the emergency room. Seeing her beloved boss in such a shocking state, the entire Gaffney team mobilized to save Goodwin. Archer and doctors were able to revive Goodwin, but she required immediate surgery.

“Sharon, I got you,” Maggie (Marlyne Barrett) reassured a dazed Goodwin. “We’ll get you through this, Sharon.”

After the examination, Archer was dismayed to discover that the wound had injured Goodwin’s pancreas, a worrying development given Goodwin’s diabetes. Archer explained the two options to Goodwin’s daughter Tara (Nicolette Robinson), the medical deputy: If they went the standard surgical route, Goodwin would never be able to eat orally again and would have to wear a drainage bag. However, if they underwent riskier and more intensive surgery, Goodwin could live as he did before the attack.

Fearful of losing her mother to a high-risk operation, Tara refused to go that route, which angered Archer. But as Goodwin lay on the operating table, Archer refused to let fear dictate his decision and opted for the intensive surgery despite the potential setbacks. Meanwhile, Maggie was shocked to find that despite the adrenaline-fueled fear, Goodwin’s altruistic nature prevailed in the fight with her attacker. Goodwin was careful not to stab her stalker at a critical point – so that justice could be served. With the arrest of her stalker, Goodwin could finally have peace of mind.

Archer really wanted to check on Goodwin in her recovery room.

“Be honest with me,” Goodwin told him. “How close did I come?”

“Honestly, I’d say you had one foot firmly in the grave,” Archer admitted.

Goodwin had tears in his eyes. “Thank you for your openness.”

“I don’t know how much you remember,” Archer continued.

“Everything,” Goodwin said solemnly. “But most of all, I remember your voice above me as I drifted away. So I knew I still had a chance.”

“I was glad I got there,” Archer shrugged.

“You not only saved my life, but also my ability to live it the way I want,” praised Goodwin.

“You deserve this, Ms. Goodwin,” Archer declared.

“Oh, we’re so far beyond that,” Goodwin chided. “SharonPlease.”

“OK,” Archer smiled. “Sharon.”
