A Lego Game Boy is on the way and I’m starting to lose my mind

Stop printing, because an official Lego Game Boy is on the way.

Revealed in a surprise teaser trailer on Lego and Nintendo’s social channels, this kit looks like it will recreate the original 1989 handheld in all its retro glory. The Lego Game Boy will be released in October 2025.

We don’t have a good look at the set itself yet (just abstract shots of those iconic purple face buttons and cross-shaped Lego-shaped D-pad), but hints like this are usually followed shortly by a full reveal. This has certainly been the case with some of the best Lego sets in recent years.

While we don’t know exactly how big the Lego Game Boy will be or what’s included, we can give a good estimate. Judging by the Lego knobs on the control pad, the weight will be slightly less than the original size. For example, the D-pad has a diameter of three studs and is less than 2.5 cm long on other kits. This is a very similar approach to the previous NES set (apologies in advance to anyone who was hoping it would be 1:1 like the proposed Lego PS2).

Will this kit contain anything? Almost certainly – based on previous recreations, including the Lego Atari 2600, there will be at least one or two game cartridges involved. I wouldn’t be surprised if iconic entries like Link’s Awakening were present and correct, especially with the current Deku Tree set.

Anyway, I’ll keep a close eye on this; You’ll be the first to know as soon as we get details.
