Weather in New Jersey: Winds will be up to 50 miles per hour today. The latest on “annoying” snow.

Violent wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour will blast New Jersey on Thursday for another cold day before “nuisance” snowfall Friday night into Saturday.

The National Weather Service’s latest forecast lowered snowfall expectations heading into the weekend, predicting less than an inch for the entire state, except for far southern New Jersey, where 1 to 2 inches of snow could fall.

“Overall, the situation continues to evolve into more of a disruptive snowfall event,” the weather service said in its forecast briefing Thursday morning.

Thursday will be the last of a series of very windy and chilly days in New Jersey before winds die down and temperatures ease slightly starting Friday and into the weekend.

A wind warning is in effect for all or part of 11 districts until Thursday at 10 p.m. Isolated power outages are possible, the National Weather Service said.

The warning for Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and Union counties says there will be winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of up to 50 mph.

Winds of 25 to 35 mph could also reach up to 50 mph in the Monmouth and Ocean coastal areas and throughout Atlantic and Cape May counties.

As of 10:20 a.m. Thursday, some of the highest gusts already reported across New Jersey were 57 mph in Wantage, 56 mph in High Point State Park, 49 mph in Little Egg Harbor Township, 47 Miles per hour at Atlantic City International Airport in Pomona. 46 mph in Fortescue and 44 mph in Seaside Heights.

Temperatures will be in the teens and lows of 20 degrees as of 7 a.m. and are expected to rise into the 30s. Due to the strong winds, the actual feel of conditions will be in the teens and 20s.

Winds will weaken overnight as temperatures fall to 15 to 20 degrees and wind chill values ​​will be around 5 to 15 degrees.

Friday will be much less windy and slightly warmer, with highs in the mid to upper 30s.

Light snow and up to 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) of snow are expected Friday night into Saturday morning as a powerful storm sweeps the southern United States, nearly missing New Jersey.

Calm conditions are expected this weekend and early next week – sunny, dry and temperatures around 30 degrees without much wind.
