Ron DeSantis refutes media double standards in his soft-spoken coverage of failures by California leadership

Florida’s governor isn’t holding back when it comes to bashing California’s governor. Gavin Newsom and mayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass in the wake of the mismanagement of the LA area fires.

During comments Thursday night at Mar-a-Lago, Ron DeSantis fired back at the media, who questioned whether it was “appropriate” for the president-elect Donald Trump are criticizing the Golden State’s Democratic leadership as thousands of acres have burned in recent days due to a lack of water.

Trump called on Newsom to do this resign and has argued that the state’s water management policies have failed Californians, with the governor following a “Declaration on water sanitationThis would have “allowed millions of gallons of water from excess rain and snowmelt from the north to flow daily into many parts of California, including areas currently burning in an almost apocalyptic manner.”

“Is it appropriate that people in your industry try to create divisions and try to create narratives whenever things like this happen? Now you’re not so interested because Newsom is a D. If Newsom were a Republican, you would nail him to the wall for what they are doing there,” DeSantis said. “We just assume that every time something happens in Florida, it is politicized by the media. So you judge Donald Trump. I mean, excuse me, I think your track record of politicizing these things is very, very bad.”

DeSantis noted that after the Surfside Tower collapse, “he had people from the Washington Post trying to immediately blame me for it without having any facts or anything: ‘Oh, he didn’t declare a state of emergency.'”

“First, the lack of a state of emergency does not mean that you cannot respond,” DeSantis said. “You’re trying to make a problem of me watching from this seat.”

“When I was elected governor, I met with other Republican governors and they said: If a natural disaster comes your way, they will do it,” he added, referring to the media.

From there, he pointed out that if Mayor Bass were a Republican, he could “only imagine what (the media) would do” if she left during a disaster.

“I mean, you know the fires are at high risk and you’re trying to go to Africa or wherever for a trip? You should have been there to prepare and do this and yet I don’t see much heat being directed at this matter. You know, I would just like to see some balance in how this is done. You’re criticizing the president-elect, but I think you need to hold these other people accountable as well, and I haven’t seen that,” DeSantis thundered.

DeSantis offered Help for California As the flames began to rage, he clearly recognized a political double standard.
