The outage, originally scheduled from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., affected approximately 1,400 customers in Kings Forest, Woodmere Park, Nealtown Farms and neighborhoods along Franklin Blvd. and White Street.

Duke Energy conducted the outage to repair damaged substation equipment for the Liberty Hill community ahead of expected snowfall Friday.

“The repair and outage were necessary to prevent equipment failure and a potentially extended outage for customers,” a Duke Energy representative wrote.

During the outage, residents had access to warming facilities at the Greensboro Sportsplex, 2400 Sixteenth St., and the McGirt Horton Library, 2501 Phillips Ave. Both locations remained open to provide assistance.

As the Triad prepares for continued winter weather, Duke Energy said its actions ensured critical repairs were carried out efficiently and minimized disruption to the community.
