Winter Storm Warning: 2 to 5 inches of snow is expected across the Louisville area

OKAY BRAND NEW SNOWFALL REPORT NOW A LITTLE OVER 10 INCHES FROM THIS SYSTEM WHICH IS JUST NORTH OF LITCHFIELD IN GRAYSON COUNTY HERE IN THE METRO WE HAVE 1 TO 1.5 INCHES OF SNOW EVERYWHERE. YOU CAN SEE A LIVE VIEW FROM THE TOWER CAM HERE ON MELLWOOD AVENUE. This is our front yard. You can see the winding driveway and out there in the distance, past the “Mellwood Avenue” sign with I-71 in the center of your screen, it’s covered in snow again. Due to the falling snow, visibility is limited and you can see other live images. THIS IS THE TRIMARK CAMERA NETWORK. This is I-64 and 22nd Street lightly covered in snow and ice. Now that the snow continues to fall at a pretty good pace. And what you see is what you will achieve in the future. How about the WLKY DRIVE CAM? WE ARE NOW ON THE PRESTON HIGHWAY, DRIVING TOWARDS HILL VIEW AREA. Look at those streets right there. THEY WERE JUST WET AT ONE TIME. NOW YOU CAN SEE AT LEAST ONE TRACK COVERED IN SNOW. And you can see the snow sort of accumulating in the middle of the tire prints. So it gets smoother as the evening hours go by. As we move into the dark hours, many of these things will stick to the pavement. Be careful if you have to leave soon. 29 DEGREES, CURRENT TEMPERATURE, HUMIDITY 82% AND EAST-SEASTERN BREEZE, ABOUT 8 MILES PER HOUR. HERE IS YOUR RADAR SCAN. Light to intermittently moderate snow can still be seen throughout Jefferson County and a good portion of the viewing area. This is probably the heaviest snow we’ve seen so far this Friday. Nice band down there near E-Town, Bardstown, Hodgenville all the way to Spencer County, TAYLORSVILLE and TAYLORSVILLE LAKE. As you can see, there’s another band in Southwest Indiana. Snow is slowly starting to fall near Campbellsville and Lebanon. So yes, everyone will have a snowy Friday night throughout the viewing area. The Severe Warning lasting for the next few hours as snowfall continues to fall slightly to moderate at times will be in the upper 20s. I think the snow will be down to just a few by 9 tonight by 10 p.m. DURING THE NIGHT CHOOSE TO CHOOSE AS TEMPERATURES SWIVEL INTO THE MID AND EVEN UP 20S. IT SNOWED ALL UP UNTIL LATE EVENING. Then it will end abruptly with an additional 1 to 2 inches expected throughout the better part of the region. I think the total for viewing area here in the city is somewhere between 2-5 inches, probably closer to 2-3 inches. Again, watch out for the slick spots, which become more numerous after dark, but we’ll see some improvements as the weekend progresses. Here is the snow system that moved into the region during the morning hours. And out there in Illinois, in far western Kentucky, there is a backlog that will make steady progress eastward. AND DRIVE THROUGH THE REGION UNTIL 10:00 AM. THE SNOW END. Just a few storms overnight into tomorrow morning. Otherwise we’re done accumulating snow. Your Saturday looks a lot calmer, but definitely a little chilly. UPPER 20S AND LOW 30S FOR AFTERNOON HIGH. THE GOOD NEWS WILL GET A LITTLE WARMER ON SUNDAY. MORE IN THE WAY OF SUNSHINE. AT THE END OF THE WEEKEND. There is still some snow melt to come as temperatures will climb into the mid 30s. HERE IS THE FORECAST IN DETAIL. NOW AGAIN, THE NEXT HOURS WILL BE THE SERIOUS WARNING AGAIN, THE SNOW WILL BE GRADUALLY RELEASING FROM MID TO LATE EVENING AS WE HOVER IN THE MID AND UPPER 20S. LOOKING TOMORROW, JUST LOTS OF CLOUDS. A FEW POULTRY IN THE MORNING POSSIBLE. We go to the 31st on Saturday afternoon. A LITTLE MILDER ON SUNDAY AT 36. ALSO SOME SUNSHINE. And then another cold wave comes. WE’RE BACK IN THE 20’S FOR HEIGHT. DIGITS ON THE NIGHT, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY OF THE NEXT WEEK. BUT THERE ARE SIGNS THAT WE WILL REACH CLOSE TO 40 NEXT FRIDAY. AND NEXT WEEKEND AS WELL. A winter storm warning is now in effect until Saturday morning. For the second time this week, a winter storm will hit the WLKY viewing area. This time all precipitation will fall in the form of snow.
