A celebrity chef is richer than Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay combined – and he’s not who you’d think.

When it comes to TV chefs’ rich lists, Jamie Oliver actually comes third with a net worth of £241 million. Gordon Ramsay falls behind him with a net worth of £176 million and a salary of around £56 million a year.

Forbes ranked Gordon 19th in its list of the world’s highest-paid celebrities in 2020, and with an empire of restaurants and shows, it’s surprising he wasn’t higher on the list.

In second place goes a chef with a close connection to Tesla owner Elon Musk – his brother, the restaurateur Kimbal Musk. In addition to sitting on the boards of Tesla Inc. and SpaceX, Kimbal co-founded the software company Zip2 with his brother, which was acquired for $307 million in 1999.

But over the course of his own career, Kimbal appeared on cooking shows, including “Chopped” and “To Dine For” with Kate Sullivan.

His net worth is estimated at $500 million – that’s about £399 million.

However, not even Elon Musk’s brother could beat the richest celebrity chef. At the top of the list is American chef Alan Wong, known for his Hawaiian cuisine.

Alan appeared as a guest judge on US cooking show Top Chef, where contestants were tasked with catering his birthday luau. He even cooked for President Obama at the annual congressional picnic at the White House.

He has appeared in shows such as The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Taste of Hawaii and At the Table With… and has a staggering net worth of $1.1 billion, approximately £884 million.

This is all despite the closure of every single Wong restaurant, with the last one – Honolulu-based Alan Wong’s King Street – closing its doors during the Covid-19 pandemic.
