Long dry weather for mid-January

SEATTLE – Those of you wanting calm and dry weather will love our forecast. If you’re hoping for wintry weather in the mountains for skiing and snowboarding, I have bad news: We’re not forecasting any major snowstorms in the high country, at least for the next week.

Highs will be in the mid to upper 40s Saturday afternoon. You can expect cloudy skies. A weakening convergence zone triggered showers in Snohomish County early Saturday. Drier weather is expected in most other locations today.

There is a chance of a light shower on Sunday, but most backyards will not see any showers. From Sunday through Thursday we will see a daily trend of morning clouds followed by afternoon sunshine.

Some mornings this week could be foggy. With temperatures dropping to over 30°C in many places, we cannot rule out the possibility of freezing fog at times this week. If this happens, extreme caution should be exercised when driving on bridges and overpasses: these are the first to freeze. Black ice can pose a great danger when fog freezes.

The dry weather will continue until Friday.
