Malik Monk ruled out; Giannis Likely – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

The red-hot Kings will look to extend their seven-game winning streak on Tuesday as they wrap up their three-game road trip with a visit to Milwaukee to take on the Bucks.

But their chance of reaching a milestone not achieved in over 20 years will be made more difficult without the services of energetic defender Malik Monk, who left the competition with a right groin injury.

According to Chris Biderman of the Sacramento Bee, Monk, who arrived in Milwaukee for the shoot on Tuesday morning wearing sweatpants and slippers, did not attend practice. Monk was originally listed as questionable.

Additionally, Bucks forward Khris Middleton (double ankle) has been ruled out for Milwaukee, while two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo (right patella) has been upgraded to probable cause.

Over the past two-plus seasons, Monk has been admired for his irreplaceable contributions as a substitute. But he was promoted to the starting lineup this season and his numbers have noticeably shot up recently.

Since Sacramento’s winning streak began on Dec. 30, Monk has averaged 22 points in 36.1 minutes on 42.1 percent shooting along with 4.3 rebounds, 7.6 assists and 1.7 steals in those seven games. He was crucial during the Kings’ turnaround, particularly during the three-game absence of Kings star point guard De’Aaron Fox, who was sidelined with a glute injury.

Monk’s influence goes beyond his numbers. His swagger and high-spirited energy help energize the team both on and off the field.

It’s hard to replicate what Monk does, but it will likely be young defenseman Keon Ellis trying to fill that void for the Kings, who are pushing to advance eight games in for the first time since eight straight wins in 2003 Win the episode. Season 04.

Without Fox, Ellis averaged 11.3 points on 45.8 percent shooting, along with 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.7 steals in 32 minutes. Sacramento is hoping for similar contributions from Ellis once Monk is gone.

Of course, no single player can replace Monk. To complete the task, group work is required. But given the way the team has been playing recently, it’s difficult to rule them out for anything.
