However, the Spaniard lost in the second round 3:6, 3:6 against eventual runner-up Sebastian Korda.

Davidovich Fokina faced Shang Juncheng in the opening round of the Australian Open and saved four set points to win the first set in a tiebreak. In the second set he was leading 5-2 before the Chinese had to give up. The Spaniard thus reached the second round of the Melbourne Major for the fifth time in his career.
