Sheinelle Jones is missing from the Today Show due to health reasons

Sheinelle Jones tells us what stopped her Today Cameras.

On Wednesday, January 15, the journalist – a co-host of 3rd hour of today alongside Al Roker, Craig Melvin and Dylan Dreyer – shared an update on Instagram explaining her absence from the show.

“I am sincerely grateful to all of you who reached out while I was away from the show. “I would like to let you know that I am taking the time to address a family health matter,” Jones, 46, wrote.

“It’s not lost on me how lucky I am not to have to rely on my family for support Today “I want to show my family but also have all of you,” she continued. “Your kindness means so much to me.” See you soon”

She captioned the post, “Love, Sheinelle.”

Jones, who has three children with husband Uche Ojeh, did not provide any further information about his health. PEOPLE has reached out for comment.

During the live Today On the show, Melvin and Savannah Guthrie sent their greetings to Jones.

“We know so many of you have been asking about Sheinelle and miss her,” Guthrie said. “We miss them too.”

“Sheinelle, we all love you and are so excited to have you back,” Melvin remarked.

“I’ll see you soon,” Guthrie said.

Jones joined first Today in 2014 and has appeared regularly in all of them Todayis active in programming and regularly serves as a co-host for Today and guest co-hosting Today with Hoda & Jenna (now synced Today with Jenna & Friends).

She hasn’t appeared in a new film yetToday Broadcast since December 18th.

Fans were vocal on social media wondering about Jones’ absence, especially after she missed Hoda Kotb’s farewell show on January 10th. The milestone seemed to throw everyone off guard Today Family, including Carson Daly, Jenna Bush Hager, Peter Alexander, Laura Jarrett, Willie Geist and frequently Today Special author Maria Shriver.

Kathie Lee Gifford, Kotb’s former co-host, even made a surprise appearance.

On January 13, Melvin took over the co-host role from Kotb Today. When the move was announced in November, Melvin revealed the friendly advice Jones had given him.

“You and I had a great conversation yesterday that I needed,” Melvin told Jones live on air. “They say, ‘Today you just get it.’ Because I don’t always feel good with…”

Then Jones chimed in: “Craig sometimes says, ‘Ah, blah, blah, blah.’ I thought, ‘Craig, this time (relax).'”

“I’m excited, I’m honored, I’m humbled, I’m everything,” Melvin continued. “And I really love working here and we’re blessed to be able to do these jobs and, you know, I just love it. I love people. I just enjoy it. I’m still pinching myself. And I love staying here too!”

Jones joked that Melvin would never leave, “the hour that makes him cry,” and said she looks forward to continuing to work with him.

“I love that 3rd hourMelvin said, and Jones replied, “We’ve got a good thing.”

“You’re stuck with me,” he laughed. “I told you a few weeks ago that at this point I have worked with you longer than anyone else in my career.”

“So crazy,” Jones said.

The Today The show airs weekdays (starting at 7 p.m. ET) on NBC.
