3 seriously injured after driver runs red light in Edison: Police

EDISON, NJ – A driver ran a red light and crashed into another car, seriously injuring an Edison family early Thanksgiving Day, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan said.

Around 1:31 a.m. Thursday, authorities responded to Route 1 North and Parsonage Road after a crash was reported.

Upon arrival, authorities found two vehicles, one of which was occupied by Diego Mejia, 39, of Edison, along with his wife Jessica Naranjo, 35, of Woodbridge, and Mejia’s 15-year-old daughter. Mejia suffered serious injuries but is in stable condition, while Naranjo and Mejia’s daughter suffered life-threatening injuries and are currently in critical condition, Ciccone said.

The other vehicle was driven by Alyssa Figueredo, 31, of Cranford. Figueredo suffered minor injuries and was taken to JFK Medical Center for treatment.

According to initial investigations, Figueredo ran a red light and crashed into the vehicle driven by Mejia.

Figueredo was charged with three counts of third-degree assault and driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as other traffic violations.
