Las Vegas man charged with murder after body found in freezer

Daniel Roush, also known as Jazlynn, was charged with seven felonies, including murder, after the body of 68-year-old Monique Gilbertson was found in a locked freezer in her mobile home in East Las Vegas.

Metro police were initially called to the mobile home park based on a report of a missing person.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Roush, who claimed he was house-sitting for Gilbertson and said, “She left town. No, she didn’t do that. Where is she? She hired me as a house sitter.”

For nearly 15 minutes, Roush refused to let officers inside. Police eventually entered and began searching the home, discovering a locked freezer.

With the help of a locksmith, they opened it and found Gilbertson’s body inside.

Prosecutors allege Roush murdered Gilbertson by forcing her to take a fatal dose of fentanyl.

The two had met months earlier at a Home Depot, where Gilbertson offered the homeless Roush a room to rent. However, the agreement quickly deteriorated and led to Roush’s eviction.

The discovery of Gilbertson’s body shocked neighbors.

Marsha Carr, a community resident, said: “It’s just scary, we’re old people. Many of us live alone in this community.”

In addition to the murder charge, Roush is also charged with elder abuse, burglary and several drug offenses.

Police seized a large stash of methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and fentanyl from the apartment.

Roush has denied the allegations and told police that he found Gilbertson dead with drugs on the table and panicked, leading him to put her body in the freezer.

Prosecutors believe Roush tried to take Gilbertson’s mobile home and car out of fear of losing his home.

Roush is scheduled to appear in court again on January 30.
