A young mother was today named as the victim of a suspected hit-and-run murder after the e-bike she was a passenger on was rammed by a Land Rover.

Alana Armstrong, 25, suffered “catastrophic” injuries when the SUV knocked her off her bike in Pleasley, near Mansfield, on Tuesday evening, while the driver, who was his friend, had to have his leg amputated.

She was the mother of a six-year-old boy who is now faced with trying to understand her sudden loss with Christmas just weeks away.

Two people were arrested but have now been excluded from the murder investigation.

Police today released further details of the tragedy and appealed for information about the vehicle, a dark 4×4 believed to be a Land Rover Discovery, which drove away after the altercation.

Chief Superintendent Dave Kirby of Derbyshire Police said: “Alana was only 25 – and the mother of a six-year-old boy.”

“Her little boy, along with her larger family, will never get the chance to see her again, hug her again, spend Christmas together or celebrate all of those milestones.”

“My thoughts, as well as those of the entire force and community, are with them at this time.”

He said the Land Rover that rammed the e-bike Ms Armstrong was riding about 8pm had chased it and another bike through the village of Pleasley shortly before.

It then drove without stopping up Batley Lane and onto Rowthorne Lane, turning right onto the A617 towards New Houghton at its last known sighting.

“A team of detectives have been working non-stop since Tuesday, searching the site where Alana was killed, carrying out house-to-house interviews and reviewing CCTV in the area,” Chief Superintendent Kirby said.

“Two people arrested in connection with the incident have now been released without charge – and excluded from our investigation.

“We have already received a lot of information from the public and I would like to thank everyone who has already come forward to assist our investigation.”

“However, I know there is more information – and there are people who know who the person responsible is.”

“Specifically, we know that there were two people in the Land Rover Discovery, manufactured between 2004 and 2009, that night – a man driving the vehicle and a woman in the passenger seat.”

“We would urgently like to hear from anyone who knows these two people, who has seen a Land Rover Discovery that may have front end damage – or who knows of a vehicle matching this description that may have recently been repaired or had parts replaced became.” .

“We are also keen to speak to anyone who may have CCTV – particularly along the A617 from this junction towards New Houghton.”
