Jennifer Lopez stuns with ‘inspirational’ new sports biopic, streaming now | Movies | Entertainment

The new sports biopic, considered one of the most “inspirational” films in recent times, is now available to stream from the comfort of your own home.

Featuring performances from Jharrel Jerome and Jennifer Lopez, the film delves into the life of an American wrestler who achieved greatness despite being born without a right leg.

Anthony Robles (played by Jerome) won the 2011 NCAA Individual Wrestling Championship and has since inspired others as a motivational speaker and author. Lopez plays his mother, Judy, who deals with her own struggles in an abusive relationship while raising five children.

Today (Thursday, January 16), Amazon Prime Video is exclusively premiering this captivating film, ensuring viewers won’t want to miss it.

At the London premiere, Lopez said: “I read the script and thought, ‘This is a very inspiring, victorious story about Anthony’s life,’ and I saw Judy’s character as kind of a smaller character.”

“But when I met Judy and Anthony, I realized how much this was a story about the two of them growing up together. Her support and love for him and then for him inspired her.”

The acclaimed actress and singer also expressed how touched she was by meeting Judy and understanding her story – a story that reflects the experiences of many women.

Lopez stressed, “I wanted her to feel safe sharing details with me because as great as the story is, without the fighting, that’s what makes it great.”

“For me it was just playing a really full, beautiful character and I really enjoyed getting lost in it. I didn’t want anyone to see me in it, I wanted them to see Judy in it.”

“It was just because Judy opened up to me, she gave me so many great nuggets.”

Critics and audiences alike praised Anthony’s story as an inspiring masterpiece, with Lopez’s performance taking center stage.

Variety praised her performance as “perhaps the most complete screen performance she has ever given” and noted that she “makes you feel the desperation wrung out, but also the will she musters to overcome it as an act of love.”

Screen Daily praised its poignant subtlety, claiming, “Lopez draws from a deep well of sadness that never veers into sentimentality.”

One impressed moviegoer raved in a five-star Google review: “This is an inspiring film that tells the remarkable true story of wrestler Anthony Robles and his family.”

“People will root for him and be inspired by his sheer determination. The unwavering love between Anthony and his mother is another element that forms the emotional core of the film.”

“The entire cast delivers exceptional performances. This is an uplifting story, a feel-good film that I loved.”
